Meet Dr. Chang

Heera Chang D.D.S., M.D. was born in Pusan, South Korea in 1970. Her family moved to the New York City area in 1982. She completed her high school education at the Stuyvesant High School in New York City and then completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992.

She completed her dental education at Columbia University in 1998 where she received the Research Award for Excellence and the Fermi/Minervini Award for Professional Leadership. She was named to the William Gies Fellowship at Columbia University and was also the recipient of the Milton G. Schelsinger Award for excellence in Dental Research as well as the Herbert J. Bartlestone Award for Excellence in Pharmacology. Dr. Chang then entered training for oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center & Hartford Hospital. She earned her medical degree in 2001 from the University of Connecticut Medical School. She also completed two years of general surgery training at Hartford Hospital.

Prior to private practice, Dr. Chang was an Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University. She served as an Attending Surgeon at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, The Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. She received Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy Teaching Grant and Dr. Stanislaw H. Brzustowicz Junior Faculty Award for excellence in teaching. She was featured in CBS early show and the New York Times relating to her published work in temporomandibular disorders.

Dr. Chang was certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2006.
